Street Dance - A little history

The term “Street Dance” is actually an umbrella term that covers everything from locking and popping, breaking, tutting, liquid and waves, Street Jazz, tracing to more recently, krumping and from the Caribbean, Dancehall. It started way back in the 70's in the streets and school yards in the U.S.A. Today it is back, bigger and better than ever, and thanks to recent films like “You Got Served”, Honey, Step Up 1 and 2, Stomp the Yard and a few more, and a Street Dancer winning the most recent Britain's Got Talent show.

It is also an excellent form of getting and keeping fit and more importantly, learning moves that would impress your friends and having loads of fun whilst doing so. It is suitable for everyone regardless of age and experience levels as although it is mostly quite energetic it can can be toned down into an aerobic type exercise with quite a few basic movements, or even beginner levels up to advanced, of course done to a catchy and addictive hip hop/ R&B beat.
